Background of the Study

Infrastructure development is essential for economic growth and improving the quality of life in any society. In Minna Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State, public sector accounting plays a pivotal role in ensuring the transparent and efficient management of funds allocated for infrastructure projects. However, poor financial oversight, mismanagement of funds, and corruption have hindered infrastructure development in the area. Adopting sound public sector accounting practices is crucial to addressing these challenges and ensuring the successful execution of infrastructure projects. This study assesses the role of public sector accounting in infrastructure development in Minna LGA.

Statement of the Problem

Despite efforts to improve infrastructure in Minna LGA, challenges such as project delays, cost overruns, and abandoned projects persist. These issues are often linked to weaknesses in public sector accounting practices. This study evaluates how public sector accounting influences infrastructure development and identifies ways to improve financial management practices.

Aim and Objectives of the Study

1. To assess the impact of public sector accounting on infrastructure development in Minna LGA.

2. To identify challenges affecting the implementation of public sector accounting practices in infrastructure projects.

3. To propose strategies for improving public sector accounting to enhance infrastructure development.

Research Questions

1. What is the impact of public sector accounting on infrastructure development in Minna LGA?

2. What challenges affect the implementation of public sector accounting practices in infrastructure projects?

3. What strategies can improve public sector accounting to enhance infrastructure development?

Research Hypotheses

1. H₀: Public sector accounting does not significantly impact infrastructure development in Minna LGA.

2. H₀: Challenges in accounting practices do not significantly affect infrastructure projects in Minna LGA.

3. H₀: Improved public sector accounting does not significantly enhance infrastructure development in Minna LGA.

Significance of the Study

The study provides valuable insights into the role of public sector accounting in improving infrastructure development. It offers recommendations for enhancing financial management practices to ensure successful project execution in Minna LGA.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

The study focuses on the impact of public sector accounting on infrastructure development in Minna LGA. Limitations may include restricted access to financial records and potential bias in stakeholder responses.
